Start and finish your day with Bible reading.
Pray before you eat-even snacks.
Listen to that spiritual gut check when you're about to eat something.
Choose the healthy option.
Stop before you're overly full.
Eat slowly.
Refuse to stuff and gorge.
Stay on a slower eating pace while enjoying conversation with others.

A glance at the past, a focus on the present and looking toward the future

Without going into too much detail, I begin this blog with a bit of my past. I grew up in a "typical" eating American home. Lunches were PBJ, Little Debbies, sugar-filled applesauce, a bag of chips and juice (more sugar than fruit). As I have begun this new eating journey. I've realized how many food choices that I was given as a child and have then chosen as an adult, are effecting my current lifestyle and future potential risks. I am so not there yet, but praise the Lord for his ever present grace in the mistakes, failures and backslides.

My "official" journey began in February of 2012. My family joined a Christian health network called Medi-Share. Because of being overweight and having borderline high cholesterol, I was directed to a program called Restore. I've known for a long time that if I didn't start making changes, the same issues my parents are facing would be mine: type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, lack of mobility and a plethora of pills. Not really what I want when I celebrate 60! Thanks to Medi-Share and the Restore program, I am beginning this long journey to eat to live and more importantly crave Jesus instead of food. So far the tools that have been most helpful on this journey are two books: Eat to Live and Made to Crave.

Today I became excited and motivated as I began to put so many of the things I am learning and practicing together. I am praying and hoping that this blog will be a tool in helping me stay on track, as well as be an inspiration to others who desire to do the same. May your journey be one that brings you much peace and praise to your heavenly Father!
